We had been producing at the new factory in the district of Kiel-Suchsdorf since the beginning of 2018, when CRRC ZELC acquired former Vossloh Locomotives GmbH in 2020 as its most important production and service base in Europe. With its new Chinese owner, the locomotive manufacturer Vossloh Rolling Stock has not only found a very strategic, financially powerful partner to steadily build up the Kiel facility and the service locations as centers of excellence in the construction and servicing of locomotives. The real strength of this ambitious partnership, however, lies in the area of locomotive development and manufacturing technology. The combined engineering expertise is unleashing the capabilities required to bring advanced rail vehicles to market faster and – as with the current generations of locomotives – look after these vehicles at the customers’ locations.
